Tips to control anxiety

 

It’s CLEARLY “that” time of the year again

The time we have a million gifts to buy and 100 parties to attend

Not to mention, our day-to-day activities (gym, work, school)

It’s no wonder my anxiety level went 0 to 100 real quick!

Balance is key for me, but extremely hard to find this time of the year

Can you relate?

So, with 2018 around the corner… (I can’t believe it either)

I decided to worry only about what I CAN control

With anxiety, I had to break it down by asking myself some hard questions:

“Why do I get stressed more so this time of the year than any other month?”

“What activities are causing me stress and why?”

“What can I do to change them? Is it something I can control?”

Reflecting and gathering information helped tremendously

Now I knew what my top 2 causes of stress were

Time management and holiday budget planning

Both my causes of stress were due to lack of planning

Which ultimately funneled down to lack of organization on my end

Planning can be controlled, so I checked these off as something I can work on

So what’s the solution?

Simple, right?!

This planner has helped me stay in control and not let events control me

Some of you may be thinking, “why not google calendar?”

I’ve tried using phone apps, google calendar, ever note, outlook. You name it!

I found that I’m more engaged when I write things down on paper

I commit to it in writing and I deliver it

The first thing I do in the morning is check my planner

(P.S. Even though it’s “2018,” they have the last few months of the year 2017 included to get you started!)

I check to see how may day is going to go, what to expect, what I need, etc…

It’s just more “real” to me

Just like books, I need to hold a real book in my hand to read

I want to notice the smell of the pages & stack them up in a book shelf

I know not everyone is old-fashioned like me, but I love it!

 

In a world that is getting so advanced in technology, I need to feel more human

And less robotic

I feel it’s important to go back to the basics, sometimes

Like having a full on conversation at a dinner table without checking our phones

Or writing a letter to a friend, just because.

Whenever I look back to when I was younger, that’s what I miss

I don’t think I’ll ever look back and say I miss getting text messages

It’s so effortless, it doesn’t need much thought

I’m super old-school you guys! It’s insane.

But back to anxiety. I hope these tips will help you get control back

Sometimes we feel overwhelmed and think there’s no solution

We make the mistake to assume there is no solution to the problem

Next time your mind tries tricking you, just remember the above steps!

Hello November!

My favorite month of the year, my birthday month 😉

I think I might have overdone it this year.

But then again, I don’t believe in “overdoing” birthdays

I also don’t believe in counting Thanksgiving calories 😉 haha!

On that note, have you thought about what you are grateful for this year?

I’m grateful for a new chance to start over after taking a risk

I’m thankful for taking a risk and learning so much about myself

I’m thankful for my family and friends

I’m also thankful for comfy clothes and purple shampoo.

But let’s talk about this month’s box from Ellie

I mean, I have not taken this outfit off- it’s so freaking comfortable

And I have slept in that white shirt many nights

Once you touch it, you will understand. The material is SO SOFT!

But this month, we also got this cozy wrap that is SO versatile.

It’s so freaking soft too, and way too freaking fashionable for the gym

Like no, I’m wearing this out to brunch instead.
 And of course, this super adorable pair of leggings is also included.

Best practices to get you hyped up for 2017: Look of the week!

HAPPY NEW YEAR, YOU GUYS! 🙂

I can’t even begin to share my excitement for ALL of us

We have 365 days to do whatever it is we set ourselves out to do

However, as much as I love the concept of thinking of the entire year ahead of us to reach our goals

There’s nothing like taking it one day at a time

Don’t you think?

“Patience & persistence” are my two focus words this year

Or as Ry would say, “your two peas (p’s)” haha!

I need to always go back to them when I get discouraged

So I’m writing them down in my room’s white board as an everyday reminder

 I feel I always reach more of my goals when I think of them more often

And that’s one way I found has worked best for me in 2016

What are you doing this year to keep yourself accountable for your goals?

Another best practice is planning out your week on a Sunday

That’s one best practice I didn’t do in 2016. And that I am almost 100% sure would’ve made ALL THE DIFFERENCE

The saying,“If you don’t plan to succeed, you plan to fail” is beyond true!

If I had a consistent gym schedule,and meal schedule planned out- I’d be in better shape today

I could sit here and beat myself up for it and be upset

(I kind of already did do all that)

But I should just take it as a lesson learned and not repeat the same mistake again!

LASTLY, this year will be the year I use my cell phone THE LEAST!

I plan to use my cell the least amount of time as possible, mostly just to blog and make important calls.

Cell phones are the reason relationships are failing, friends aren’t communicating and ideas are not being born

I want to let my mind wander, I want to listen more, to live more, to love more.

I’ve already started this rule with a few friends

I went out with two of my girlfriends and we didn’t have our cell phones on us

We had the BEST conversations with zero distractions and were able to fully enjoy each other’s company

I also did that with Ryan this weekend and we had the best weekend talking about everything imaginable

It was truly wonderful to be in the moment with the people I love

When was the last time you were truly present?

It’s sad to think of all the people sitting at a dinner table with their family/friends, texting someone who’s not there

It’s sad to think of how our generation has changed (for the worst when it comes to self-confidence & happiness)

But it takes one person to make this world a better place

And I hope this gets you inspired to do the same!

Shorts, Heels & All The Feels

Is it just me or is everyone fed up with Boston’s weather lately?

I mean, for real.

Its been raining every weekend, and when the sun decides to come out, it’s during the week.

Super lame, Boston. Let’s get past this cloudy/wet phase.

I think we are all ready for the sun and the sand. Can I get an amen?

Aside from the crappy weather though, this weekend was pretty awesome. 🙂

I started reading this book called, “The Elements of Style.” Ever heard? It’s an “oldie but goodie.”

It’s the basics of writing and common mistakes most people make with grammar, punctuation, and so on.

But don’t judge me yet. I’m still learning! LOL!

What I like about this book is it’s short and easy to understand.

Most of us like short and easy, right? At least when it comes to books 😉

This book is the original. Since this book was first written, there has been other editions.

Fun fact: This book was written by a college professor in 1919, for his students. Little did he know, huh?

That’s why I always say, go with your passion and the rest will come.

 

Someone else was dying to read my book.

His name is Max, he is Ryan’s moms kitty.

He’s the most curious cat, ever and super adorable.

He kept placing his head over the book to see what I was looking at. haha!

I also discovered, thanks to a friend. This place in Worcester (where I spent the weekend), called “The Compass Tavern”, and it’s so kick as* for brunch.
