But real talk- I never felt so out of shape.

School and work has been taking up all my time. I was talking to my girlfriend today who’s also a blogger

And she gave me a few tips on how to organize my life better

Long story short, I’m buying a planner from Amazon after writing this post

Less is more: Shop Smart

Raise your hand if you like to shop!

*hands and feet in the air*

Lately, however, I’ve been very cautious with my money

I feel it’s 10x more important to have cash in the bank than to wear a brand name

This weekend, I was talking to a girlfriend of mine about it

We both went out to eat at Papagayo (Assembly Row) and then decided to check out some stores

We didn’t really make it to store #2

Mainly because we are so used to shopping online

Who has the time and patience to wait in line, look for that specific dress or shirt out of the 100 other items?

It’s just a huge waste of time

The dress below took me 10 minutes to find. It was night time, I was in my pjs ready for bed…

Not to mention I paid PEANUTS for it!

The material isn’t the greatest, to be very honest. But the dress looks INCREDIBLE on and is SUPER in.

For the money you are paying to purchase it, it’s a great buy

It’s also playful and fun, but the color is what got me

If you have a nice tan, this color is crazy flattering

I got a size M, and it fits like a glove. I found it to be true to size

Also, be ready to iron it- it will need it 🙂

Moral of the story: You don’t need to pay a million bucks to look and feel like a million bucks

Don’t fall for what you see online. Girls often wear expensive things to feel better about themselves

If you are confident, you don’t need to make big purchases to feel beautiful. You know you already are!

Besides, what’s truly important is what’s within.

Too many beautiful girls have a terrible personality. And that can only get them so far.

Be kind, be genuine, work on being your best version- the rest will follow.

Viale Cambridge

Summer in Boston is pretty amazing

You get to fully explore this beautiful city, its restaurants, lounges, shops, parks and so forth

However, we often forget of the surrounding cities of Boston

Many of which are full of incredible history and fun activities for ALL!

One of my ALL.TIME.FAVORITE is Cambridge

Cambridge is basically a city that turned into a lifestyle

To know what I mean, you need to see for yourself

But just as a small hint: You want to sit with them.

It’s no surprise that once I was approached to check out Viale (Ingredient-driven italian restaurant)

I couldn’t say no.

And of course, I had to tell you all about it

The staff there are A+! Shout out to David (Viale’s Chef). David, you are BEYOND talented in the kitchen

I mean, guys, check out this amazing CALAMARI PIZZA

(yes, I capitalized it- it’s freaking important!)

How did I never hear there was such thing as a CALAMARI PIZZA in this world?!

I’d say just this pizza alone is a reason for you to check Viale out.

I’m also big into noticing GF (gluten-free) options

Two of my friends have celiac disease, so when we go out- we look for a GF friendly spot

I was pleased to find how Viale had some pretty yummy GF options, such as this chocolate brownie dessert

If you like chocolate, brownie, and ice cream- you will absolute ADORE this treat

Shout out to Viale for thinking of my girlfriends & everyone out there with celiac disease. 

But for those that aren’t too crazy about calamari, pizza, chocolate, brownie and ice cream (umm.. who ARE you!?)

Kidding, but not really

Viale’s menu is pretty much for all

Take for instance their $1 oysters, three specialty drinks, and seafood heaven salads

Umm hi, if you live in Cambridge- I think I found your after work spot. Thank me later!

Although, those drinks sound super appealing. I’m more of a “rose all day” type of basic

I’m not really sorry or ashamed. It’s basic, but it’s delicious

And Viale got me covered 😉

I can go on forever here. But I just wanted to leave a taste in your mouth, for now…

If you are in the area, or from Boston trying to find a new spot- I highly suggest this gem in the heart of Cambridge

It’s also next to some super awesome nightlife bars/lounges, so you can make a night out of it!

P.S. No need to dress up here. It’s Cambridge, everyone is “too cool to care.” I loved it!

Body Image: How to overcome it

Dear you, make peace with the mirror and watch your reflection change.

 

Today, I would like to talk about body image.

The way we see ourselves in the mirror every morning/night has a lot to do with our mental state

Many women today are influenced by their definition of what’s “beautiful” by social media, and life influences..

Once upon a time, in the 90’s, “heroine chic” was in, anyone that looked skinny AF was attractive

So if you didn’t have the “heroine chic” look, you starved yourself everyday or binge ate and purge to “fit in.”

But heroine chic all of a sudden wasn’t attractive anymore. That fever was FINITO.

To be perceived as “attractive” you now had to have curves.

And all those girls now started eating more, under-going surgeries to get curves they didn’t have, or committed suicide because they didn’t see a way they could fit in with society anymore.

I don’t think I need to explain here why this is sickening

I also don’t need to explain that the world’s view of what’s attractive will not always be the same as today’s’, it will continue to change- as it has throughout the years.

But for some reason, girls aren’t seeing the whole picture and men are buying into the fake girls on Instagram

We are all idolizing the wrong things and the end result, most are not happy with what they have

The girls think what they see on the internet is real or if they know it’s fake, a lot of times they can’t afford it

The guys see these chicks online everyday and feel like that’s what every girl needs to look like or they’re all set

I’ve personally been told I don’t look good enough because this guy I was dating years ago was obsessed with checking out these Instagram girls /reality tv shows with girls who looked far from real and he eventually forgot what he originally liked about me. I was no longer viewed as “pretty” or “beautiful” next to those girls.

Oh and since, he hasn’t found this “ideal girl” he had in his mind

It’s honestly sickening how much we’ve all become so self-absorbed on what’s outside

So much so that most of us forget to work on what’s inside

I love running into girls that work on themselves, girls that care about things greater than themselves

Girls that work on their souls, minds, mental health & well-being

Those are the type of girls that offer substance & VALUE to their friendships and relationships

Ultimately, when we stop obsessing over ourselves is when we find fulfillment and happiness

We don’t even think about being depressed because we are so aware of what is going on in the World

So many people have never seen SHOWERS or apartments in their lives

We have EVERYTHING and yet we complain that life isn’t great because our butt isn’t big enough

One day, we will look back and wish we could have put our time to better use

Only when we realize and focus on what TRULY matters, is when we will start living a life far from ordinary

Only when we stop focusing on material things and start helping others is when we will find true happiness.

Now I get asked all the time if I am a bit too obsessed with fitness and if that goes against what I preach

Here’s my answer to those wondering:

I work on self-development every single day but part of living a long healthy life to me is taking care of myself

I don’t think it’s wrong to feel good mentally & physically, as long as you are doing it for YOU and not for approval

I’ve come a long way when it comes to doing things for me and not for others. And I am proud to say I am in a great place where I found a balance between the two that is not obsessive.

And yes, I feel it’s crucial for all of us to find our own balances

As I always say, “DO YOU, BLOCK THE NOISE, DRINK CHAMPAGNE.

Sometimes less is more. In this case, the less you care about what others think of you, the more pleasure you will find in living. Be you, be authentic, and make a difference.

Champagne Mama: Look of the week!

They call me “Champagne Mama” haha

No, they really don’t but that’d be HILARIOUS!

On all seriousness though, how much of a life saver is champagne if you’re into staying slim & fit?!

Did you know four ounces of champagne is roughly 90 calories? That’s less than your average glass of wine

Yes, bachelor lovers. Switch the wine to champagne next Monday and save yourselves MAD cals!

It’s worth it.

And so is this comfy sand color “champagne vibes” shirt for your brunch dates!

I suck at dressing casual, so I’ve been really trying to “up” my casual game. I mean, Ryan cannot keep up otherwise

I always look for something that represents who I am. I don’t know, it just boosts my confidence level

I mean, fashion is art after-all. And my art needs to be the shit. I’m not settling.

I can’t just wear some random shirt that says nothing I can relate to. I don’t care if it costs a grand, it’s trash to me.

Just being real.

A happy life starts with a happy mind: My steps to living a happier life

A happy life starts with a happy mind

So here are some tips, as I share this look of the week on how I maintain a happy mind

Let me start by saying, I have challenges and struggles just like everybody else

Life throws so many lemons at you and sometimes you just don’t feel like making a freaking lemonade!

 But it’s important to keep in mind that no matter how we react to our challenges, it’s our ACTION that will give us the end result we so desire

Worrying, stressing, yelling, crying, or depressing over ANYTHING is really only going to make matters worse

So anytime I am stressing, I try to first vent it out with someone that genuinely cares about me

Vent it out, BE OPEN about your problems

Once we say things out loud and they are no longer just in our heads, the problem tends to seem smaller

Talk it out with a friend, family member or someone you trust

That’s what having a support system is for! And it’s crucial for sanity. TRUST ME.

Step number II: FIND YOUR ZEN

If you are overwhelmed or filled with anxiety. You need to find your zen!

For some, like myself, it’s the gym! I work out 10x harder when I’m stressed out

The gym becomes my temple. It’s a place I can leave all my anger inside and walk out feeling renewed

For others, it can be yoga, daily meditation, a walk in the park, reading a book…

What’s your zen?

Step III: Fuel your soul

This is an important one. Most people don’t stop to find their zen (step II).

Therefore, they are not in tune with their soul

When I say “soul,” I mean your inner-self.

We have all jobs. Some that we love, some that we don’t love.

And because of that, it’s important to find time during the week to dedicate to something that makes you soul smile

Mine is blogging, being one with nature. Giving back in some sort of way.

I notice anytime I’m outdoors near nature, I feel re-energized.

I get the same feeling when I give back or make a difference in someone’s life.

Find what fuels your soul.

And lastly, find something to be grateful for everyday.

We may think this is an easy one or we think about it at least once a day, therefore, we are grateful

I used to think the same way but it’s not the same

Dedicate time, whether in the morning before you have breakfast or at night before you sleep

And say your prayers or thank God (the Universe), whoever you believe, for the things you are grateful for

It’s life changing.

These are some of the steps I take to have a happy mind, so that I can therefore, live a happy life.

Look of the week: Denim everything, please!

DENIM EVERYTHING

After a long week of rain, all I’ve been thinking about is how we finally get beach weather this weekend

(PRAISE.THE.LORD)

Yesterday, I was so inspired by how nice the weather was that I re-organized my entire closet with summer clothes

It took me over four hours, and 3 bags of clothes I never use. Which is now donated.

I feel like my room lost 100 pounds LOL!

I’m also moving in a few months, so I like to slowly get myself ready. You know, so I don’t drive myself insane.

BUT that’s a story for another day

As I was going through my summer clothes..I found this denim gem and needed to share!

Denim anything is worth sharing, specially when it comes with a choker and is perfect for a beach party 😉

WRAP YOUR HEAD AROUND THIS

When someone tells me they still drive to the mall to shop…

Whyyy thoughhh?!

The older I get, the wiser I get with my time

Time cannot be bought, nor wasted

I get the same “high” shopping online, as I would going to the mall, minus the stress of waiting in lines

It’s a no-brainer, for me.

I believe the main reason a lot of people hesitate to shop online is the fit

And I agree. You have to pick your stores wisely.

This satin wrap dress was risky

I didn’t know if a medium size would fit or be slightly loose

But it fit like a glove

Wrap dresses are the new sexy trend, they just hug your body in all the right places

I paired mine with nude heels, beige bag and a turquoise necklace.

So freaking cute (I know I know. I’m bias)

Balance: Business & Pleasure

Let’s talk life balance today. Because business and pleasure, please!

I’ve had a job since I was legally able to work in the U.S (age: 16 years old)

After graduating High School, I needed more than a PT job to pay the bills though

So “adulting” began in the summer of ’06

I found a full-time job and turned it into a career of now twelve years

And throughout those twelve years, I’ve learned a thing or two on work/life balance

___________________________________________________________________________________________

Don’t let those twelve years fool you though!

Although, I’ve been managing the work/life balance since ’06. It wasn’t that long ago since I finally mastered it.

That’s right. It’s truly taking me quite a bit of time to figure the solution we all seek

So let me start you guys off by the root of the problem or at least the root of MY problems

And hopefully you can relate and start making some changes to improve your lifestyle

These were the things that kept me from achieving a work/life balance I so desired:

  1. I NEVER said “no.”

I’d come home from work, exhausted AF and I’d get a text from a friend asking to grab dinner/drinks that night and I’d say yes! I’d say yes without thinking twice about it.

If you want to have balance, you must learn when to say NO.

Learn HOW & WHEN to say no, so you can focus on you and other tasks that are important to you. Be selfish, sometimes. It is OK!!!

This was such a huge lifestyle change for me and made me feel so much lighter.

It truly gave me back time I never thought I had. And allowed me to focus more on my goals & what needed to get done.

2. Communicate!

Learn to speak up about your challenges with the people you care about.

My boyfriend and I understand our schedules and what’s important to us.

We both workout 4-5 times a week, we work 9-5 jobs.

Therefore, we mostly see each other on weekends. And maybe once a week.

We get it and we understand it.

Supporting each others’ hobbies is what has made our relationship strong.

Same goes with my friendships. We all have different schedules but we still maintain a tight friendship.

We don’t see each other every weekend but we are there for one another.

Communicate the “why” and those who matter, will understand.

But make it a point to see your friends, too.

My friends and I see each other at least once or twice a month. Don’t disappear.

Which brings me to my next point…

3. Plan your month out

Planning your month out will leave you with much less anxiety about not being there for your friends, family, boyfriend/girlfriend.

Let them know you need a month’s notice with your schedule to make sure you can be there for them.

This gives you time to plan around those events, and also give yourself some “me” time.

Not to mention, it takes away all that stress from “not knowing” and not planning.

And finally, don’t overwhelm yourself or be too hard on yourself because you are busy trying to build the life of your dreams!

There is nothing wrong with that!

Finding the right balance that fits YOUR life can take time.

But if you learn to say no, communicate and plan ahead. You will be just fine. 🙂
