Dry Skin Solutions

Let’s talk dry skin problems a.k.a living in New England problems. Because let’s face it, the struggle is real!

Dry skin is very common this time of the year in New England, and anywhere that shares a similar winter as ours.

We are all aware that during winter, dry skin gets much drier. But somehow, nothing we do seems to work. Why is that?

My dear friends have told me no lotion put on this blessed/beautiful Earth has helped them thus far. So here’s a post that might help you figure out other reasons you may still be having dry skin. This post is completely based on what Dermatologists have observed and highly believe could help.

During winter time, most of us enjoy a nice long shower. Because it’s the best thing ever after getting home from the freezing cold weather, am I right? The only problem is it’s terrible for your skin, causing it to be extra dry.

Try to avoid taking long showers to notice a difference in your skin. Shower for 5-10 minutes in warm, instead of hot water. Five to 10 minutes should be enough time to get cleaned. Also, avoid using harsh soaps. Using the right soap is CRUCIAL for better skin. Try using a mild- fragrance free soap that moisturizes as it cleanses. Bar or liquid is fine, as long as it is formulated specifically for dry skin.

Now, what do we do about the winter weather? Maybe move to Cali and call it a day? haha! If that’s not happening anytime soon for you either, try perhaps an easier/quicker solution. All you will need is a humidifier to keep the air at your house/apartment moist. If you can’t afford a humidifier, try adding warm water to a large bowl and keep it in your room before you go to bed (for a test trial). Notice the next morning how the water will have decreased significantly and the air you’ll be breathing will be much more pleasant. Once you see that it does work, keep that bowl full at all times so the air remains moist.

Use an ointment or cream, instead of a lotion! Ointments and cream are more effective and less irritating than lotion. Look for the ones that contains an oil such as jojoba oil or olive oil. Shea Butter also works well.

Here are other ingredients to look for that helps to soothe dry skin: lactic acid, urea, hyaluronic acid, dimethicone, glycerin, lanolin, mineral oil, and petrolatum.

Lastly, try using only gentle, unscented skin care products. Avoid deodorant soaps and skin care products that contain these ingredients: alcohol, fragrance, retinoids, or alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA).

By doing the above, you should see improvement in your skin fairly quickly. If not, I highly suggest seeing a dermatologist as he/she can prescribe you an ointment or cream that’s right for you!

I hope this was super helpful to you and most importantly, that it works!! =)

Boob Job Surgery Cost

The big question everyone ask me or wonder about. How much did it cost you to get your boobs done?

It’s a month since my surgery this 20th of February. And I went to see my Dr. yesterday for my second follow-up. He gave me the “ok” to go “ham” at the gym and to buy bras. GUYS, it was an awesome feeling! I can’t even describe it. I had to wear a sports bra everyday for the past month. I couldn’t wait for the day I could go back to wearing a bra again. So of course, I went bra shopping right after that follow-up appointment yesterday (pictures on my IG page “fear_ordinary”).

Anyway, what I have learned after doing much research is you will always find a place that will charge you less. You will always have plenty of options. But no money is more important than putting your life in someone’s hands that you trust. Someone that has years (10+) of experience in that specific surgery alone. Someone that has proven record of their work. It’s important that you feel extremely confident in your decision. Peace of mind is worth paying for.

When I started researching, I was debating whether to go get it done in Brazil or not. Brazil is 4x cheaper than Boston. However, I had to think about traveling back and forth, follow-up appointments, what if something went wrong and I was back in the U.S? You get what you pay for.

If getting a boob job is something you are highly considering. I would suggest that you save as much as you can and see the best doctors in town. Make sure you do a lot of research, and look up pictures that show their before and after work with women that share your same measurements (boob size, weight, height). If I had not done those researches, I would’ve made the biggest mistake of my life. I was looking at sizes alongside of 325 cc to 350 cc and I almost went with 350 cc. Once I started looking at girls with my measurements and what a 350 cc looked like after, I was not happy AT ALL. It was too small for me, I wanted bigger. I wanted to go up at least 2 cup sizes. It just didn’t make sense to me to drop so much money and go up only 1 cup size or less. I wanted it to be noticeable.

Lastly, after looking up hundreds of pictures, I decided to go with 400 cc. Big difference, right? And it was the best decision I’ve made. I could not be happier.

When trying to decide what size you want to go with- always remember. Most women regret not going bigger. Therefore, going bigger (at least in my opinion) is never a bad decision. Rarely, does anyone complain that they went “too big.” haha! I love my new twins, and I sometimes wonder if I should’ve gone slightly bigger myself but this is the biggest I could have gone. I maxed out my size! LOL!

It’s also important to speak to your Dr. of what is going through your head, specially if you have changed your mind a couple of times like I did. As he/she will stir you in the right direction.

I hope this was somewhat helpful to y’all. Really excited to share more as my journey continues!

Today’s “Normal” isn’t Normal: Find Your Happiness; Escape The Trap

Hey lovelies! V-day weekend is over. On my previous post, I was talking about being very much against it, for the reasons I had listed and still agree with. However, I will have to admit, it was quite nice to have a special day to celebrate “us.”

In a world full of distractions and selfishness, it’s nice to focus on that special someone that you love. And to do something nice for them (not that this shouldn’t be something you do often).

What did you ladies do with your boo this weekend? Anything special? Did you try any of the recipes on my previous post? (Please share!)

A nice gesture when hanging out with your significant other is practicing to put your phones away. It’s not easy. Everyone carries their phones on them at all times and have notifications going off every second to remind them that the phone “needs” their attention. You have another “like” on Instagram, you have a “new comment” on Facebook, or your team just scored. YOU MUST LOOK AT THE PHONE IMMEDIATELY! Right?! Wrong. It’s not a life or death situation, it can wait. Enjoy your “now” moment. Be present.

Although, it’s great that we can communicate with the world through social media, it’s also something that has trapped us from truly living our lives. We don’t experience things fully anymore because we are too consumed by social media & its distractions.

Most people spend 80% of their day looking at their phones, communicating with anyone that is not in front of them. And by the way, if they do get a person in front of them- they have a hard time communicating face-to-face because they forgot how to have a “real” conversation that doesn’t involve typing “LOL” or “IDGAF.” If you have a hard time picking up the phone & calling a friend to speak to them, or if you can’t go out to dinner and have a conversation for an hour without  your phone, then you have fallen for this trap.

Get out of it. As quickly as possible, for your own sake.

Start truly living your life & making great memories that you will remember, regardless of having taken pictures or not. Regardless, of “checking in” or not, regardless of posting your pictures online or not.

Life is to be lived by experiences, feelings, touching, talking. Not through texting & liking others photos or statuses.

Here’s what I have done so far to help improve my lifestyle (and it’s only the beginning).

Deleted Facebook since 11/15

Best decision I have ever made. Every year, I would take a break from it to focus on more important tasks and take back some time to do more productive things. But since I have deleted it last year, I feel zero need to get back on. One social media is enough for me. It helps me focus on more important tasks and as far as friends go, I talk to my closest friends on a daily (without social media). Again, FB wasn’t for me because I was consumed by it- which is why I felt the need to withdraw myself from that “trap.” You, however, may not be. So this may not be necessarily needed for your lifestyle change.

As I mentioned earlier, the phone being put away when hanging out with friends and family is something I am also working on. Sometimes, my boyfriend will have to remind me but we keep each other grounded. hahah! (Thanks babe!;)

I believe the first step is figuring out what is taking your time and why. Is it helping your relationships or destroying them? Is it making you better or worse? Are you happier by doing it or starting to feel down?

The first step is to realize that today’s “normal” isn’t normal. You not being able to enjoy a concert without taking a thousand pictures and posting it online (immediately) isn’t normal. You, not being able to focus on your relationships without getting pulled back by meaningless “likes” isn’t normal. Normal is being PRESENT. Normal is making memories you will remember forever because you LIVED it, not snapped it. Let that sink it for a minute.

I know this is a lot to take in. And honestly, I was just going to write about this past weekend with my boyfriend but this is something I am super passionate about. It’s something most of us struggle with and need to work on and no one seems to speak up about it. Don’t wait until you are in your death-bed to look back and think- “what did I do with my life?”.. Start your lifestyle change TODAY. Find what is that is taking time from your life and remove yourself from that trap. It won’t happen overnight, but you will succeed.

Valentine’s Day Ideas

Valentine’s Day weekend is here! “Yayyy,” I really could care less. Honestly, I, in particular, never liked “Valentine’s Day” or any type of day created by some marketing genius to get people to go out and spend money. Call me a “party pooper,” but I much rather my guy surprise me with flowers on a random day (not because he is told by society he has to, but just because he wants to). Does that make sense?
I don’t hate on my friends or others that do enjoy celebrating those days throughout the year. But I like to do something because I want to versus because I have to. I think most girls reading this are probably thinking I’m bat shit crazy, and that I should just love getting spoiled no matter the situation. haha! (I am a bit strange, I suppose. And also very used to spoiling myself, instead).
Anyway, regardless of how I feel about Valentine’s Day- I will still have a romantic night in.  Last year, we didn’t go out to dinner because neither of us really cared for going to a crowded place, paying triple as much for a simple meal because “Valentine’s Day.” We wanted something more intimate, just him & I, some fun cards- a home cooked meal and a movie. Why not? So this year, we’ll be doing something very similar. You may be thinking, “Well, what the hell! Let the guy pay for that expensive meal, you deserve it!.” Let me explain in the simplest way possible, yes I do deserve it. But when you are truly someone’s partner, you work with themnot against them. You help them grow, you help them save to build a better future, you don’t take advantage of a man because he’s a man and is expected to take care of you. Not to say you should never splurge or be spoiled by your man (all power to you if you are both in a position where you can spoil the hell out of each other), but everyone has their goals- and every couple should have theirs. We both are simply helping each other grow and if by cooking a romantic dinner at home brings us closer to our goals then hell, why not?!
Anyhow, enough about us and why we do the things we do. You are here for some fun ideas for Valentine’s Day. And since I am cooking- here are some SEXY dessert recipes to get the mood going! *wink wink*

My top 3 Desserts for Valentine’s Day

Individual Chocolate Melting Cakes

10 ounces of bittersweet or semisweet chocolate, chopped

4 tablespoons unsalted butter

5 eggs

1/2 cup sugar

3/4 cup all-purpose flour

1 1/2 tablespoons baking powder

1/8 teaspoon salt

caramel sauce

ice cream

Heat oven to 325* F Lightly coat a 12-cup muffin tin with vegetable cooking spray

Melt the chocolate and butter in a large bowl over a saucepan of simmering water. Remove from heat.

In another large bowl, beat the eggs and sugar at medium-high speed until light and fluffy. Add the flour, baking powder, salt, and melted chocolate. Mix with a spoon until well blended.

Divide the batter evenly into 8 muffin tins and bake until the cakes have just cooked through, about 15 minutes.

The cakes will still look a bit moist on top. Remove from the oven and let cool 5 minutes. Serve warm with the caramel sauce and ice cream.

Chocolate Bar Fondue

3/4 cup heavy cream

1 pound milk or dark chocolate, broken into pieces

1 pint fresh strawberries

1 store bought angel food cake, cut into 1 inch pieces

8 ounces of dried fruit, such as pineapple slices and figs

In a small saucepan, low heat, warm the cream and chocolate. Stir until the chocolate melts. Transfer the fondue to a serving bowl.

Serve immediately with forks and foods for dipping strawberries, angel food cake, and dried fruit.

Raspberry S’mores

8 graham crackers

32 large marshmallows, cut in half

1-5 ounces chocolate bars (such as Hersheys)

1 cup fresh raspberries

Adjust rack to middle position, and heat broiler or toaster oven. Break the crackers in half to form squares and place on a baking sheet. Arrange 5 marshmallows halves on top of each square. Broil for 30-60 seconds or until the marshmallows are golden brown.

Break each chocolate bar into 12 pieces. Arrange the chocolate and raspberries on top of half the crackers. Invert the remaining marshmallow-topped crackers onto the raspberry-and-chocolate-topped crackers, pressing gently to make sandwiches. Stack them, if desired.

How yummy do those desserts look?! I’m excited to pick one for this weekend. As for the main dish, I’ll most likely do something with fish (somewhat healthy dish) and some vegetables.

Another idea that is never a bad one- light up some candles, set a music station on your tv or phone to be playing in the background. And decorate the table! Have some fun with it. And don’t forget to buy that sexy lingerie for yourself. And please don’t wear flats. haha! When in doubt, wear heels.

I hope this weekend is a fun, romantic weekend for you all! Come back to visit soon!

I’ll be posting something new 3x a week. Sunday, Tues and Thursday!

How To Overcome Hard Times In Life

Hey my loves! Lately, I’ve been posting so much about my personal life and a lot less about fashion/fitness. I figured since I can’t workout, and I need to rest for both my breast augmentation surgery and my appendix surgery- that I would share a little more about my experiences with you guys throughout this process. I hope it’s been somewhat helpful to hear what I’ve been going through. And please ask away if you have any additional questions aside from what I cover and/or have covered.

Today was probably the toughest day of my recovery for me. I mean, think about it, I didn’t expect surgery number two to take place. I was already back at work, ready to give my all after week 1 of recovering from my breast augmentation and then everything changed.

I was never super fit like these IG fitness models but I always tried to do my best at the gym. Last year was a big year for me where I tried EVERYTHING. When I say everything, I mean everything. I tried pre-made monthly meals (which were a terrible idea because I was eating like a bird due to the size portion they gave me & having zero carbs? I still can’t wrap my head around the reason for that). I also tried all types of gym classes for cardio and I did enjoy most of them, my favorite was cycling & kickboxing cardio (full body workout, so kick as*). I also got “up close & personal” with weights, as before I was very intimidated by those beasts. I got over that fear fairly quickly once I decided to leave my fear behind. And lastly, tried various different programs (booty workout challenges, etc).

Going to the gym 3-4x a week is just something I love to do for myself, it’s “me” time, it’s therapy. Not going since January 20th has been almost depressing. I feel terrible, my body isn’t the same, my energy level isn’t the same, and there’s really not much I can do about that. Today, was a realization day that going to the gym is really a big part of my lifestyle and something I get so much out of, and truly enjoy doing. After trying all those various programs, workouts, etc.. I finally have found what works best for me, so I am super eager to get back at the gym full force and destroy it!

Staying home has helped me put a lot of things in perspective. I have a white board in my room (I highly suggest everyone to have one- I bought mine at Staples) where I have my goals up. Goals are important to have but you don’t want to overwhelm yourself. I went from 3 different goals to 1, to save. I have broken down the numbers and I have set myself a budget that I look at everyday when I wake up. It’s perfect and very effective.

I also realized how lucky I am to be able to drive, walk, sleep well, change clothing without help- Things I couldn’t do or some that I am still struggling with throughout my recovery period. I think it’s important when we feel down- to realize how blessed we are with the things we already have. And I am so extremely blessed and grateful for all the little things, for they are the big things.

Anyway, instead of being down- I turned my negatives into positives. And kept myself busy reorganizing my room, as well as doing some reading. My mind is so used to turning negatives into positives by now that it’s almost automatic. I don’t think about it, it just happens. But it wasn’t easy at first. This is another practice that I would highly recommend that you do. See, for a whole year, 2 years ago, I decided to never complain about anything and only be thankful and grateful, instead. For a whole year, anytime I started thinking of anything negative- I would remember the promise I made myself & think of something I was thankful/grateful for. It took me a whole year to be this positive and I still have my moments! haha But seriously, best thing I have ever done as a New Years Resolution.

It’s getting late, but I wanted to stop by and tell you guys a little bit more about my story and help you achieve a better lifestyle like I have been working towards. Mindset is everything- make sure your thoughts are always working FOR YOU, and not AGAINST you.

Sleeping Positions after Breast Augmentation

(Picture is 8 months post surgery 08/16)

It will be 3 weeks this Wednesday after my breast augmentation surgery.

And since then, I have heard many different opinions on how one should sleep a few weeks post surgery.

It’s really aggravating that you can’t find the answer anywhere because of how much they vary!

So let me give you the advice I received directly from my surgeon, as well as some knowledge I’ve gained after doing some research.

Please keep in mind, I started researching different positions to sleep after 3 weeks of my surgery, as you are supposed to sleep upright post breast augmentation in the amount of time recommended by your doctor. And all the below information is research, plus my personal opinions. So please refer to a professional to make sure you do what is right for you.

Alright! Let’s get to it!

First, there seems to be a confusion as to why you should sleep upright post breast augmentation surgery.

Some say it’s because it will help the breasts drop

(sleeping upright will not help your breasts drop, time will and time varies anywhere from 3 weeks (where you begin to notice your breasts drop) to 6 months.

And for your breasts to look completely “natural,” we are looking anywhere from 6-12 months).

It’s not what I want to hear, it’s not what YOU want to hear. But I’m here to tell it how it is.

In addition, depending on your implants, some surgeons will advice you to massage your breasts to help them fall into place faster (please reach out to your doctor for professional advice and to find out if massaging your breasts will help you achieve faster results). Here’s a video if you are curious as how to massage your implants if directed by your surgeon:How to massage your implants.

On the same note, some think they have to sleep upright because if they sleep in any other position (on their tummy, sides) their breast implants will be prone to rupture.

Here is a fun fact I found at Dallas Plastic Surgery Website:

“Although, occasionally, implants have been known to rupture after being subjected to excessive forces (i.e. seatbelt injury or mammograms), they are designed to withstand tremendous force. The amount of force required to induce breast implant failure has been demonstrated to be greater than one thousand pounds; as a point of reference, the average mammogram exerts approximately 32 pounds of force. When implants break after being subjected to force, the likelihood is that those implants were likely going to fail for other reasons. Given that, it is fair to say that sleeping on your stomach will not make you more likely to break your breast implants.”

I will have to say, after all this exhausting research on what’s right and what’s wrong.

And even with the above statement, I would still withhold from sleeping on my tummy for a while.

I’d rather be safe than sorry. And sleeping on your sides is a lot more recommended than sleeping on your tummy.

It’s also said that with breast implants, sleeping on your tummy is very uncomfortable.

An important part of recovery is getting a good night’s sleep. Because if you can’t sleep well throughout the night, it can prolong your recovery period.

If you are having a hard time sleeping upright on your first few weeks like I was, please reach out to your surgeon for alternatives.

Remember- every surgery is different, therefore, every implant type is instructed to be treated differently.

My surgeon may suggest different things for my recovery than yours may for you.

At 3 weeks, I feel great! Tonight will be the first night that I will be sleeping on my side and I can’t wait.

I did notice one side dropped faster than the other, making it seem like one boob look bigger than the other- which is scary.

However, this is also completely normal.

What I would observe carefully is if you feel your implants moving as they may need to get looked at for possible infection.

Appendix Pain & Recovery Period

Hey loves! I am sorry I’ve been less consistent on my posts. I have great plans for this blog but this month started out very dramatic, painful, and hectic. If you follow me on IG: Fear_ordinary, I had posted a video on plans for a youtube channel, sharing and showing different workouts you can do while recovering from breast augmentation– without lifting and without going against your doctor’s orders. However, this Tuesday everything changed.

Monday was my “average” Monday. I woke up ready to conquer the World, went to work super excited to kill my goals and help my team kill theirs. I was feeling great! Ok, when I said “my average Monday” and went on to saying how great my Monday went (now you get why I didn’t generalize. I’m the weird one that looks forward to Mondays. I embrace it as a new start, a new beginning to better myself: as a boss, as a friend, as a daughter, sister, girlfriend, etc..).

Any who, I get home from work, watch my favorite show “The Bachelor” and head to bed. As soon as I laid down…!BANNNNG! DREADFUL cramps started to happen or so it felt like cramps. It was as if my stomach was squeezing something inside me and constantly causing pressure which would turn into this on-going pain for the whole entire night. At first, I thought “maybe I’m hungry?”.. I went and tried to eat a slice of bread. An hour later, still in unbearable pain. So then I took “Tummys” thinking maybe I am just constipated and that didn’t help either.

I woke up on Tuesday morning with maybe 2 hours of sleep and a ridiculous amount of pain. But decided I’d still try to go to work anyway (because I’m crazy). I get there and the pain continuously & quickly increased. Now, I not only had “cramps” but nausea, dizziness and zero appetite. I couldn’t eat or drink anything without wanting to throw up. My team at that point just kicked me out and told me to go home or see a doctor.

The drive home was awful. Imagine every bump you accidentally go to turning your stomach pain ten times worse x a million. That was my drive home.

I finally got home and stayed in bed to rest. I was convinced it was going to get better. But it didn’t. So I called my primary care and went to see the first doctor available that afternoon. The doctor after asking me a few questions and locating exactly where the pain was coming from (lower right abdominal side), sent me straight to the ER. No time was to be wasted.

I get to the ER and they run a lot of exams and decided I needed to do a cat scan. Have you ever done one? Yesterday was my first time and I was horrified. In my head, I thought a million of things could go wrong. Anything “radiology” related freaks me out and that machine looked scary. I also just had surgery 2 weeks ago yesterday and I was worried that getting a cat scan would be bad for it (which it is not, fyi). Anyway, what they do is give you this liquid (about a gallon or so) it tastes very similar to water and you are supposed to drink it in 2 hours. It has to be exactly two hours because if you drink it too fast, it can make you sick, cause diarrhea and nausea. Sounds fun, right? Then, you wait another 30 minutes or so and they take you to the radiology room where you will go through the cat scan. They will give you this liquid through your IV that makes your body extremely warm and gives you a feeling that you peed yourself but you didn’t, you just feel like you did. And you go in and out, in and out of the machine.

A LONG hour later, I get the results.. I am thinking (food poisoning or a virus). But I was oh-so-wrong. My appendix was inflamed and had to be removed asap. I needed to get a surgery done.

Yes, you heard it right. Two weeks in from my breast augmentation surgery, I had to get my appendix removed. I went from never having done a surgery before to having two surgeries in two weeks. I was horrified and I had no time to digest it, it had to be done. My pain wasn’t going anywhere and it could be life threatening if not removed.

The hospital I was in didn’t do surgeries? It’s crazy to even type that, but true. So they had to transfer me to another hospital, and get me set up. February 3rd, first thing in the morning, I was getting surgery #2 done and I will have to say (based on my opinion and my experience), it was A LOT worse than the breast augmentation. The pain  prior and post surgery is nothing I’ve ever experienced before. And to top it off, you feel tired easily, you don’t feel hungry at all for another 2-6 weeks (depending on your health & conditions). Now I will be home recovering for another two weeks and unfortunately, my plans on staying fit before my trip and helping you stay fit with me will have to be put aside, as my health right now is my priority.

I will try my best to write as often as possible and keep you guys posted on both surgeries! And I will try my best to stay positive and upbeat like I normally am.

We can’t forget, it can always be worse. I am thankful for everyone in my life that’s been there for me no matter what. I don’t like being vulnerable and depending on others, but sometimes you need help. You need loving/caring people in your life to help you pick yourself up again and come back ten times stronger. So if you’re going through a difficult time right now, know you’re not alone. And be open-minded to those extending their hands to help you. Those are angels disguised as people. 🙂
