Dynamic Stretching vs. Static Stretching Explained

Hey guys!

As I’ve progressed with my workouts, I’ve started to research the most proactive ways to stretch.

Let’s face it – nobody has ever said “I can’t wait to stretch” after (or even before) an intense workout, haha!

Since stretching isn’t our favorite thing in the world – let’s at least make sure we are doing it right. Sound good?

There are two types of stretching:

  • STATIC STRETCHING
  • DYNAMIC STRETCHING.

Lets look at the differences between them and how these stretching techniques affect your workout.

Dynamic vs. Static Stretching

Static Stretch

Requires holding a stretch for 10 or more seconds while motionless (previously the most popular type of warm-up).

  • Focuses more on relaxing muscle & promoting flexibility.
  • Static stretch will benefit you post-workout as studies show that static stretching prior to a workout may decrease athletic performance.

Dynamic Stretch

Requires moving as you stretch (today’s most popular type of warm-up).

  • This stretch is beneficial pre-workout as it increases your heart rate, meaning it is essentially a form of cardio – bi-winning!
  • It warms up your muscles. Therefore, it improves athletic performance.

Although we may not love it, stretching should always be a part of our workouts.

Keep in mind, stretching, whether post or pre-workout, will not eliminate soreness.

Soreness is caused by micro-tears in the muscle and surrounding connective tissues which won’t be repaired through stretching.

Let’s avoid injuries, improve our performances and continue on our quest to a healthier lifestyle! =)

Repair Dry & Damaged Hair in 3 Simple Steps

Damaged hair is very common nowadays.

I have personally dyed my hair more times than I can remember and as much as I love a great change, it does damage the hair a lot.

Plus, it can take a very long time to get it back to looking/feeling healthy again.

So here are 3 steps you can start taking today for beautiful/healthy hair:

STEP 1 – STOP USING HARSH TREATMENTS

Examples”

  • Chemical hair dyes (whether professional or not).
  • Bleaching your hair –  It will destroy your hair by causing dryness & frizz.
  • Chemical straightening or curling – I know, this will be tough at first but the only way to get your hair back to its natural roots is by letting it be natural.

STEP 2 – BE GENTLE WITH YOUR HAIR AFTER WASHING IT

  • When washing your hair, don’t rub your head vigorously. Instead, massage your scalp with your fingertips and GENTLY massage the shampoo through the hair.
  • Don’t squeeze out excess water right away. Give it a few minutes and then use a towel to gently pat it dry.

STEP 3 – SHAMPOO NO MORE THAN ONCE OR TWICE A WEEK

  • When you first stop washing your hair everyday, your hair will overproduce sebum (an oily secretion of the sebaceous glands). It does this because the hair is used to being washed daily.
    • Give it a week or two, and your hair will start getting back to normal and will stop looking greasy.
  • If you are concerned about your roots looking greasy until your hair is back on track, try using dry shampoo (bought at any pharmacy).
    • You can also make your own by simply mixing 1 tablespoon of cornstarch and 1/2 tablespoon of baking soda.
    • Make sure to apply only where your hair is greasy and then comb it out.

Hi guys!

Here is a quick list of 10 things that make me unique 🙂

  1. I was born and raised in Sao Paulo, Brasil until I was 11 years old, when I came to the United States.
  2. I speak 3 languages: Portuguese, English and Spanish.
  3. I’m afraid of heights but I learned how to ski two years ago and I love it!

  5. I have worked in the financial service industry for 9 years – and now manage a group of 10+ people.
  6. I love quotes (what girl doesn’t??) Whether I’m sad, happy or uneasy – I always find the perfect quote to express my feelings!
  7. I love wine – both sweet & dry.
  8. I have a younger brother whom I am super protective over. I can’t help it.
  9. My parents and brother are the only family I have in the U.S.
  10. Music is my LIFE. I cook, clean, shower, workout listening to music. It makes me feel alive and gives me so much energy!

Here in the northeast, we’ve had some amazing weather so far in November.

But it can still get chilly at times.

This past weekend, I left the city and spent the weekend in Jackson, New Hampshre – where my boyfriend took me for my birthday!

Try the lobster mac & cheese – I kid you not, some of the best food you will ever have in your life!! It was too good for word, zero regrets on this cheat meal weekend.

November is here and it’s my birthday month!

I am so excited to celebrate with my family and friends this week. I take a week off every year just to celebrate and reflect on another year that has passed.
